during my masters program in Elementary Education, the reading teacher introduced us to many books, including this one: Each Peach Pear Plum by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. it is a fun book that has a nice rhyme and beat when you read it aloud. when i first introduced it to k ,she wasn’t very interested. like with food, if your baby isn’t interested the first time you should try again later!
a few weeks ago, i read it to k again and she actually enjoyed it. the next few days, she asked for it again and again. i think part of the more interest in the book came with her older age. she was able to understand how to look for characters introduced in one page that is in the next page and then re-find them in the end.
i like that this book will grow with k. k has started to make connections with things she saw in one thing (i.e. a drawing mat to a picture book) and she would point to the other whenever she sees the similar image. this book introduces characters of classic children’s books she will read in the future, she can make the connection back to this book and it would have a deeper meaning. more fun to come!
